HI HABITAION (5)

¡Hola mis queridos estudiantes del Español! Hoy vamos a continuar con nuestra tema La Habitación. If you are ready, let’s get started:

el adosado – attached houses
el apartamento – an apartment (Latin America); an apartment at the sea-side (Spain)
el bungalow – a bungalow (this is a tough one!)
la casa – a house
    casa de campo – a village house
    casa de una planta – a one-story building
    casa de muchos (varios) pisos – a multi-storied building
    synonym: edificio – a building
la finca – a ranch
el chalet – a country house
el rascacielos – a skyscraper
el hotel – a hotel (remember: we do NOT pronounce the “h”, and make that “L” at the end SOFT)
el hostal – a hostel
la villa – a villa, a big house, a detached house
el jardín – a garden
el parque – a park
la calle – a street
el callejón – alley, narrow street
    callejón sin salida – dead end, blind alley
el patio – a patio
    patio de luces – courtyard
confortable – comfortable
oscuro – dark
claro – light, bright
iluminado – illuminated, well-lit
limpio – clean
sucio – dirty
bueno – good, in good condition
malo – bad
bonito – nice
espacioso – spacious
    Mi habitación es clara y bien espaciosa. – My room is light and spacious.
cubrir – to cover
dar a – to face something (when talking about the door or windows)
    Mis ventanas daban al jardín. – My windows were facing the garden.
guardar – to keep, to maintain, to guard
    Guardo mis cosas en este armario. – I keep my stuff in this closet.
mover – to move
    No se puede mover las cosas de su lugar. – You can’t move things off their spots.
mudar – to move (like in “to move to a new house”)
    La semana que viene nos mudamos a otra ciudad. – Next week we are moving to a different city.
permutar – to exchange (place of living)
    Permutamos una habitación por piso de tres habitaciones. – We are exchanging our  one-room apartment to a three-room apartment.
alojarse – to stay (at a place)
instalarse – to settle oneself
    instalar – to install
poner – to put, to hang
colocar – to situate
colgar – to hang
alquilar – to rent, to lease
limpiar – to clean, to wash
    día de limpieza – a cleaning day
arreglar – to clean, to put in order
    arreglar el piso – to put everything in order in an apartment, to clean up
desarreglar – to make a mess
    Tienes todo tan desareglado. – You have such a mess.
